Abstract: Intake of certain polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly n- 3 and n-6 fatty acids, has been associated with the development of asthma and allergies in children, but little is known whether the configuration (c i s or t r a n s) of these fatty acids plays a role. We investigated the association between intake of t r a n s fatty acids and the prevalence of childhood asthma and allergies in ten European countries.
